EN 280-1 Mobile Elevated Work Platforms, Part 1: Design Calculations, Standard Test for Stability Criteria

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 280-1 standard. This standard specifies safety requirements and precautions for mobile elevating work platforms of all types and sizes designed to move people from the work platform (WP) to the work positions in which they carry out work.

Machines designed for the transport of goods, equipped with work platforms as interchangeable equipment, are considered MEWPs.

This standard applies to structural design calculations and stability criteria, construction, safety inspections and testing before MEWPs are put into service for the first time. It identifies the hazards arising from the use of MEWPs and describes methods for eliminating or reducing these hazards.

It does not cover hazards arising from:

• Use in potentially explosive atmospheres;
• Working on external live electrical systems from the platform;
• Use of compressed gases for load-bearing components;
• Climbing up and down the work platform at varying levels;
• Special applications under national or local regulations (eg rail, ships).
