EN 319 Standard Test for the Determination of Tensile Strength of Particleboards and Fibreboards, Perpendicular to the Plane of the Board

This European standard specifies a method for determining the resistance to tension perpendicular to the plane of the board ("internal bond") of particleboard, fiberboard and cement-bonded particleboard.

Determination of resistance to tensile by applying a uniformly distributed tensile force to the surface of the test piece until rupture occurs. The tensile strength perpendicular to the plate plane is determined by the maximum load relative to the surface area of ​​the test piece.

Each test piece should be attached to the loading blocks using a suitable adhesive. Excess glue pressed from the glue line will be removed. If hot melt adhesive is used, the screen side of the chipboard should be sanded until a smooth surface is obtained. If the sieve side is not sanded, space-filling adhesive (epoxy adhesive) should be used.

Record the maximum load carried by the test piece with 1% accuracy. Reject the results of any test piece showing partial or complete adhesive failure or failure on the test block. In this case the test should be repeated using new test pieces.
