EN 993-6 Shaped Refractory Products - Test for Determination of Modulus of Break at Ambient Temperature

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 993-6 testing. This part of EN 993 covers a method for the determination of the modulus of refraction of dense and insulating shaped refractory products under conditions of a constant rate of stress rise at ambient temperature.

EN 993-6 Shaped Refractory Products - Test for Determination of Modulus of Break at Ambient Temperature

This test is designed to be used for research, materials development, production process control, and design data collection purposes. The strength level determined by the test is calculated based on the linear elastic bending of a thin beam, assuming that the material under test is elastically homogeneous and isotropic and exhibits linear (Hookean) stress-strain behavior.

The modulus of rupture can be significantly affected by numerous factors related to the microstructure of the material, the surface finishing procedure applied in the preparation of the test pieces, the size and shape of the test piece, and the orientation of the test piece during testing. test, geometry and functions of the test setup, rate of load application, and relative humidity of the ambient atmosphere. If one or more of these parameters differ between two determinations, comparisons of results between different determinations should not be made accordingly.

As a result of the brittle nature of refractories, there is often a significant set of results from a set of nominally identical test pieces. Therefore, caution should be exercised in interpreting test results. For many purposes and as described in this standard, the results of the MOR test may be expressed in terms of a mean value and a standard deviation.

Further statistical evaluation of results is required to obtain design data and may be requested for other purposes. In particular, any extrapolation of modulus of rupture data to other stress geometries, multiaxial stress, other stress ratios, or other media should be carefully considered.

This method imposes closely defined constraints on the size and shape of the test piece and the function of the tester to minimize errors that may occur as a result of the test method.
