EN ISO 12567-2 Thermal Performance of Windows and Doors - Determination of Thermal Transmittance by Hot Box Method - Part 2: Roof Windows and Other Projecting Windows

EN ISO 12567-2 specifies a method for measuring the thermal transmittance of skylights and protruding windows. It excludes edge effects occurring outside the sample's perimeter, energy transfer from solar radiation on the sample, and the effects of air leakage across the sample.

This standard does not include:

• Edge effects occurring outside the sample perimeter;
• Energy transfer due to solar radiation on the sample;
• Effects of air leakage from the sample.

It is accepted that the thermal performance of the products will vary according to the direction of the heat flow and therefore it is preferred to test these products in the direction in which they will be installed. However, since there are only a few hot boxes capable of performing such measurements, this measurement procedure indicates that it is acceptable to measure the thermal transmittance of vertically mounted skylights to facilitate a fair comparison of products.

It should be noted that measurements made when the sample is mounted vertically will generally produce lower U-values ​​than those measured in other directions where the heat flow is up. An alternative to measurement in true orientation to be used in practice is to calculate convective and radiant heat transfer using procedures specified in ISO 15099, ISO 10077-1, ISO 10077-2 and EN 673.
