ISO 13794 Ambient Air - Test for Determination of Asbestos Fibers

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ISO 13794 standard. This standard specifies a reference method using transmission electron microscopy for the identification of airborne asbestos fibers and structures in a wide variety of ambient air conditions, including the interior atmospheres of buildings, and for a detailed assessment of asbestos structures in any atmosphere.

ISO 13794 Ambient Air - Test for Determination of Asbestos Fibers

The sample preparation procedure involves ashing and dispersing the collected particles so that all asbestos can be measured, including asbestos originally included in particle aggregates or particles of composite material.

The lengths, widths, and aspect ratios of asbestos fibers and bundles are measured, and these allow the calculation of the total mass concentration of asbestos in air, along with the density of the asbestos type. The method allows the type(s) of asbestos fibers present to be determined.

The method cannot distinguish between individual fibers of asbestos and elongated fragments (cleavage fragments and pointed particles) from non-asbestos analogues of the same amphibole mineral.
