Method C is recommended for high-temperature resistant plastics where the deflection temperature is above the maximum operating temperature of the heat transfer device according to Methods A and B.

Direct transfer of test results to certain applications is only permitted if the time, temperature and bending stress conditions are similar to those specified in this standard.

Dimensional stability under heat is the ability of a test specimen to substantially retain its shape under a certain static load up to a certain temperature. The thermal degradation temperature is characterized by the degradation temperature in this standard.

The dimensional stability temperature HDT (thermal deflection temperature) according to this standard is the temperature at which a bending test specimen, evenly heated in a liquid heat transfer medium and supported on both sides, reaches a certain deflection under a certain force.
