Where a single unit is provided for testing, all safety tests must be performed on the same sample and in the order listed in this standard. Strength and durability tests can be performed on a second sample.
Safety requirements are based on the knowledge that storage furniture and parts can cause injury only if they are heavy and dropped a significant distance. This is possible if floor-mounted units become unstable, wall-mounted or display-mounted units become detached, or heavy items become separated from the units.
Movable and adjustable parts shall be designed to prevent injuries and accidental operation. It shall not be possible for any load-bearing part of the storage unit to loosen unintentionally. All parts lubricated to facilitate sliding shall be designed to protect users from lubricant stains in normal use. All vertically sliding roll facades and doors, including those made of hinged members, must not spontaneously move from any position higher than 200 mm measured from the closed position if this could cause injury.
