EN 1953 Spraying and Spraying Equipment for Coating Materials - Safety Rules

This European standard addresses all major hazards, hazardous situations and incidents associated with both manual and automatic spraying and spraying equipment for the application of coating materials to workpieces.

Together with this standard, EN 50050, EN 50059, EN 50176, EN 50177 or EN 50348 gives the requirements for electrostatic applicators. Specific significant risks associated with the use of this machine with foodstuffs and pharmaceuticals are not addressed in this standard. This standard applies only to machines used for their intended purpose. It also covers hazards arising from conditions reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer.

Applicators may consist of the following parts:

• Spray or spray system;
• Trigger;
• Filter;
• swivel joint;
• Security and control systems;
• Unpressurized gravity or siphon feed vessel.

This European standard does not apply to:

• Applicators designed to operate pneumatic pressure above 15 bar;
• Non-spraying equipment (eg extruder, dispenser);
• Fluid bed powder coating machines;
• Equipment for automatic implementation of the flock;
• Spray guns within the scope of EN 50580;
• Supply hoses and channels;
• High-pressure cleaner equipped with high-pressure water-jet machines according to EN 1829 1;
• Airbrushes for graphic and artistic works;
• Machines for the supply and circulation of coating materials under pressure according to EN 12621;
• water jet cutters;
• Automatic devices such as robots or reciprocators.
