EN 324-2 Wood Based Panels - Determination of Perpendicularity and Edge Flatness

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 324-2 testing. This European standard specifies methods for measuring squareness and edge flatness of wood-based panels. Applies to all flat plates. Thickness, width and length determination methods are specified in EN 324-1. The squareness and edge flatness of full-size boards are determined by measuring the deviation from a mechanical square or straight edge.

EN 324-2 Wood Based Panels - Determination of Perpendicularity and Edge Flatness

EN 324-2 is a European standard that specifies a method for determining the angularity and edge flatness of wood-based panels. These measurements are important to ensure that the panels are suitable for their intended application and can be properly joined or aligned with other panels.

The standard applies to all wood-based panel types, including chipboard, MDF, plywood and OSB. The measurement method involves the use of straight edge, square or other suitable measuring instruments.

A brief overview of the measuring procedures outlined in EN 324-2:

Squareness determination: The squareness of a panel is determined by measuring the diagonals of the panel using a straight edge and a square. The difference between the two diagonal measurements is calculated and compared with a tolerance value specified in the standard. If the difference exceeds the tolerance value, the panel is considered out of square.

Determination of edge flatness: The edge straightness of a panel is determined by measuring the deviation of the edge from a straight line using the straight edge. The maximum deviation is measured at three different locations along the edge length and compared to a tolerance value specified in the standard. If the deviation exceeds the tolerance value, the edge is considered straight.

The standard also provides guidelines for selecting suitable measuring instruments and ensuring that measurements are accurate and consistent. In addition, it outlines procedures for recording and reporting measurement results.

By following the procedures outlined in EN 324-2, manufacturers and users of wood-based panels can ensure that the panels are properly sized, shaped and aligned for their intended application.
