EN 438-4 High Pressure Decorative Laminates (HPL) - Part 4: Classification and Specifications for Compact Laminates 2 mm Thickness and More

High pressure decorative Compact laminates are characterized by their aesthetic qualities, strength, durability and functional performance. Compact HPL sheets are available in a wide variety of colours, patterns and surface finishes; they are extremely strong and resistant to abrasion, impact, scratching, moisture, heat and staining; and it has good hygienic and anti-static properties, easy to clean and maintain.

Certain applications involving cut-to-size panels and full-size sheets may require special quality requirements that can be negotiated between supplier and buyer; in such cases, the following requirements can be used as a basis for agreement.

It should be noted that only a small percentage of the pages in a batch (level to be agreed with the customer) should contain defects of the minimum acceptable level. It can be agreed between the buyer and supplier that the visual quality standard only applies to one decorative face.

The acceptable size of defects depends on the maximum fouling length equivalent to 10 mm/m² laminate and is proportional to the slab size under examination. The total acceptable length of fouling can be concentrated in one defect or dispersed into infinitely smaller defects.
