This European Standard is applicable to all cladding materials and coating systems for exterior masonry and concrete, including those used in exterior thermal insulation systems.
The coated side of a test piece is exposed to the measuring gas and the carbon dioxide emitted is quantified. The test piece seals a test cell containing an absorber for carbon dioxide so that the cell is gas-tight to the environment.
Exterior wall coverings play an important role in preventing rainwater from seeping into porous mineral surfaces. Test samples are immersed in water under controlled conditions and weighed at appropriate time intervals. Liquid water permeability is determined by the change in mass.
