Since its inception, the GRC industry has made efforts to promote a culture of quality control and routine testing. A number of wet and dry state tests have been developed and used for a long time. Routine strength testing of hardened GRC is based on bending testing of samples (coupons) cut from test boards.

It can be used with a GRC sample or coupon, typically 50mm wide, 10mm thick and 250mm clear, held in a special four-point bending apparatus. The deflection is also recorded so that a load-deflection curve of behavior is produced when the load is applied.

The optimum value is determined by the specification and is a function of end use. If the result obtained does not match the specified value, run a second test to confirm the information before making adjustments to the process.

The specified fiber content (average fiber content) is determined by the manufacturer as a function of production variability, so that the glass fiber content of the products is at least equal to the stated value.
