This standard specifies the properties of geosynthetic barriers, including polymeric geosynthetic barriers, clay geosynthetic barriers, and bituminous geosynthetic barriers, when used as liquid barriers in the construction of ducts and as a separating layer for water, and appropriate test methods to determine these properties.
The purpose of these products is to control the leakage of liquid through the structure. This standard does not apply to geotextiles or geotextile related products as defined in EN ISO 10318 1.
This standard provides for the evaluation and verification of product constancy of performance (AVCP) against this European Standard, including factory production control procedures.
This standard defines features to be considered in relation to the presentation of performance. This standard does not cover applications where the geosynthetic barrier will be in contact with treated water for human consumption.
The main function of geosynthetic barriers used in the construction of drinking, fresh or salt water channels is to prevent or reduce the flow of liquid through the structure. Damage during installation is not covered in this document.
It is not normally recommended to install a geosynthetic barrier on the downstream face of a channel set. Special consideration should be given to any geosynthetic barrier placed on the downstream face of a channel. The practices described in this standard do not include such situations.
