Explosion evacuation devices are protective systems consisting of a pressure sensitive membrane fixed to the structure it is protecting and constituting it. It is designed to respond in the event of an explosion at a predetermined pressure, immediately opening a sufficient ventilation space to ensure that the maximum pressure achieved by an explosion inside the enclosure does not exceed the maximum pressure the structure is designed to withstand.
Flameless explosion evacuation devices typically consist of an explosion evacuation device together with a flame extinguisher to prevent the spread of flames to the environment. They are used to allow explosion evacuation where otherwise flame and pressure hazards from ventilation would cause injury to personnel or structures.
The application and features of explosion evacuation devices are summarized in EN 14491 for dust explosion protection and EN 14994 for gas explosion protection.
This standard covers flameless explosion evacuation of dust, vapor and gas explosions. This standard does not cover details of avoiding ignition sources from detection devices or other parts of flameless explosion evacuation devices.
