EN 1626 Cryogenic Containers - Valves Test Standard for Cryogenic Service

This European standard specifies requirements for the design, manufacture and testing of valves for cryogenic service, i.e. additional requirements for cryogenic service for the valve product standard suitable for cryogenic liquids, below 10°C, as well as at ambient conditions to allow starting.

Cryogenic fluid (refrigerated liquefied gas) is a gas that is partially liquid due to its low temperature (including fully evaporated liquids and supercritical fluids). Applies to sizes up to DN 150, including vacuum jacketed cryogenic valves.

This European standard does not apply to safety valves for liquefied natural gas (LNG). The valve is intended to be designed and tested to meet a pressure rating (PN or Class). Valves can then be selected with a PN or class greater than or equal to the maximum allowable pressure (PS) of the equipment with which they will be used.

The valves will perform their functions safely in the temperature range up to the minimum temperature specified with +65°C and the pressure range for use.

Valve bodies can be brazed, welded, bolted, screwed or unionized. Union type head shall not be used for valves larger than DN 50. Union nuts will be locked to the body. Screw cowls must also be secured with a union nut or other device that provides equivalent security.
