This standard specifies test methods for determining the tensile properties of polymeric geosynthetic barriers PE (e.g. PE-HD and PE-LLD), FPO (e.g. EVA, FPP and PE-VLD), PVC-P and EPDM.
Method ASuitable for testing unreinforced (including maximum 80gsm glass wool) and unreinforced polymeric geosynthetic barriers (GBR-P) made of PVC-P, EPDM and FPO (e.g. EVA, FPP and PE-VLD).
Method BSuitable for testing unreinforced and unreinforced polymeric geosynthetic barriers (GBR-P) made of PE (e.g. PE-HD and PE-LLD).
Method CSuitable for testing reinforced or reinforced polymeric geosynthetic barriers (GBR-P).
Method DSuitable for measuring the modulus (if required) of all unreinforced GBR-P.
The test specimen is extended along its main longitudinal axis at a constant speed until the specimen breaks. The force and increase in specimen length are recorded continuously throughout the test.
It measures the distance between measurement marks on the sample without causing any damage or slippage to the sample, ensuring that the measurement represents the actual movement of the measurement marks. Example: mechanical, optical, infrared or other types.
Test samples shall be drilled with smooth and notch-free edges. Inspection with a low-power magnifying glass is recommended to check that there are no nicks. Punch dies will be kept sharp by regular honing and a suitable backing material will be used with the punch dies to ensure a clean edge.
