EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 1822-5 standard. This European standard applies to efficient particulate air filters (EPA), high-efficiency particulate air filters (HEPA) and ultra-low penetration air filters (ULPA) used in the field of ventilation and air conditioning and for technical processes, e.g. clean room applications.
It establishes a procedure for determining efficiency on the basis of a particle counting method using a liquid test aerosol and allows for a standardized classification of these filters in terms of their efficiency.
This part of the EN 1822 series deals with measuring the effectiveness of filter elements, determining the conditions and procedures for performing tests, identifying a sample tester and its components, and including the method for evaluating test results.
The difference between this European standard and previous national standards lies in the technique used to determine integral efficiency. Rather than mass relations, this technique relies on the most penetrating particle size (MPPS) particle count for micro glass filter media, which is typically in the range of 0,12 µm to 0,25 µm.
This method also allows testing of ultra-low penetration air filters, which was not possible with previous test methods due to their insufficient sensitivity.
