EN 927-2 Paints and Varnishes, Coating Materials and Coating Systems for Outdoor Wood, Part 2: Performance Characteristics Test Standard

Performance requirements are determined by three end-use categories (defined in EN 927 3) in terms of two mandatory tests, a natural weathering test according to EN 927-5 and water permeability according to EN 927-1.

This European standard is one of several parts of EN 927. EN 927-1 addresses the issue of terminology for the wide variety of wood exterior coatings currently available. EN 927-1 also provides a framework for communicating information about the suitability of a coating for certain specific end-use categories.

However, the question of comparing the suitability of products tested or likely to be exposed in different climatic zones and testing for different end-use categories remains. EN 927-2 addresses these issues and specifies a limited set of mandatory performance criteria, with optional tests that can provide additional information in a standard format.
