EN ISO 16422 specifies the requirements for pipes and fittings made of oriented non-plasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-O) for piping systems for water networks and services intended for underground or above ground use not exposed to direct sunlight.
The piping system according to EN ISO 16422 is designed for use in transporting cold water under pressure, potable water and general purposes up to and including 45°C, and for applications where special performance requirements are required, especially impact.

The molecular orientation of thermoplastics results in improved physical and mechanical properties. Orientation is carried out at temperatures well above the glass transition temperature.
The orientation of the molecules creates a laminar structure in the material of the pipe wall. This structure provides the ability to withstand brittle fractures caused by minor defects in the material matrix or scratches on the surface of the pipe wall. PVC-O can therefore be considered highly resistant to nicks and no testing is required. Due to the morphology of the oriented PVC-U pipe material, there is no risk of rapid crack propagation in the long line.
Provides reduced wall thickness with improved pulley strength, material and energy savings. Enhanced resistance to impact and fatigue also occurs. Classification depends on material composition/formulation and stretch rates used. Thus, by classification, these characteristics can be identified or determined.
