EN ISO 6721-5 Plastics - Determination of Dynamic Mechanical Properties - Part 5: Bending Vibration - Non-Resonance Method Test

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN ISO 6721-5 testing. This standard describes a bending, non-resonant method for determining the bending complex modulus Ef* components of polymers at frequencies typically in the range of 0,01 Hz to 100 Hz. Higher frequency measurements can be made, but significant errors may occur in the measured dynamic properties. The method is suitable for measuring dynamic storage modules in the range of 10 MPa to 200 GPa.

This method is particularly suitable for the measurement of loss factors greater than 0,02 and can therefore be conveniently used to study the variation of dynamic properties with temperature and frequency over most of the glass-rubber relaxation region. The availability of data determined over wide ranges of both frequency and temperature enables the derivation of master plots using frequency/temperature shift procedures that offer dynamic properties over an extended frequency range at different temperatures.

A test specimen is subjected to a sinusoidal transverse force or displacement at a frequency significantly below the fundamental bending resonance frequency. The amplitudes of the force and displacement cycles applied to the sample and the phase angle between these cycles are measured.

The term transducer in this standard refers to any device capable of measuring the applied force or displacement as a function of time, or the ratio of these quantities. Calibration of transducers must be traceable to national standards for force and length measurement. Calibration shall be accurate to ± 2% of the minimum force applied to the sample and displacement cycle amplitudes for determination of dynamic properties.

Mount the specimen between the clamps using a sufficient clamping force to prevent slippage under all test conditions. If measurements are observed to depend on clamp pressure, a constant pressure should be used for all measurements, especially when applying length correction.
