ISO 1268-2 Fiber Reinforced Plastics - Methods for Producing Test Plates

The reinforcement layers are placed on a rigid flat plate and hand impregnated with liquid thermosetting resin. The resin is formulated according to the manufacturer's instructions to achieve curing within a period of time that allows the flooring to be complete but limits unnecessary exposure to the atmosphere. The fiberglass and resin are combined by means of a hand-operated roller.

This method is suitable for any thermosetting resin that cures at room temperature without the need to apply additional pressure.

Textile glass rovings are chopped into predetermined lengths in a cutter and combined with a stream of tiny resin droplets emanating simultaneously from a spray gun nozzle. This method is normally used with unsaturated polyester resins. The fiberglass and resin are dispersed on a rigid flat plate or mold and joined by means of a hand-operated roller.

To obtain the desired thickness and reinforcement content, it may be necessary to conduct preliminary trials and measure these properties before the final spray technique is determined. Multiple spray layers are preferable to a single spray application and it is recommended that one layer of the spray material be approximately 1 mm thick.
