ISO 13934-2 specifies a procedure for determining the maximum strength of textile fabrics, known as the grip test. The method is mainly applicable to woven textile fabrics, including fabrics that exhibit stretch properties provided by the presence of an elastomeric fiber and mechanical or chemical treatment.
It can be applied to fabrics produced by other techniques. It is not normally applied to geotextiles, non-woven fabrics, coated fabrics, textile-glass woven fabrics and fabrics made from carbon fibers or polyolefin tape yarns. The method covers the determination of the maximum strength of test specimens in equilibrium with the standard atmosphere and wet test specimens for testing. The method is limited to the use of constant elongation rate (CRE) testing machines.
This part of ISO 13934 is mainly used for tensile testers for the determination of certain mechanical properties of textiles, e.g. tensile properties, seam tensile properties, tear properties and seam slippage. The procedure for these standards accepts when appropriate. Results obtained with one method should not be compared with results obtained with other methods.
Two sets of test specimens should be cut from each laboratory sample, one in the warp direction and the other in the weft direction (or machine and cross machine directions if possible).
