It can be used for pure polycarbonates and blends with other polymers, as defined in ISO 7391-1, as well as blends of both, filled or unfilled.

Experience has shown that the high level of accuracy required when determining the viscosity number of polycarbonate solutions is not always achieved with commercially available Ubbelohde viscometers. The reason for this lies in the small irregularities in the capillaries. Therefore, it is necessary to check the accuracy of the capillaries used with the aid of suitable reference materials.

Approximately 5 g of the tested material is weighed into a 100 ml measuring flask. Add about 70 ml of dichloromethane and put it in the shaker until it is completely dissolved. The sample can be mechanically crushed prior to this step to increase the dissolution rate.
