ISO 7822 Textile Glass Reinforced Plastics, Determination of Void Content, Standard Test for Ignition

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ISO 7822 testing. This International standard specifies three methods for determining the void content of textile glass-reinforced plastics or composites whose components have a solid structure.

ISO 7822 Textile Glass Reinforced Plastics, Determination of Void Content, Standard Test for Ignition

Method A; this method can be applied to composites where the effects of ignition loss on materials are known. Most matrix resins and textile fiberglass reinforcements fall into this class.

The method is not applicable to composites where the effects of loss on ignition test on resin, reinforcement and any filler are unknown. This is completely non-combustible Silicone resins and oxide, carbonate etc., which can gain or lose weight. may contain fillers. Note that individual weight loss tests on individual materials will generally, but not necessarily, give the same result as when all materials are combined.

Method B; This method is applicable if the composite tan is crushed, for example, by crushing it in a press, in such a way that all closed cavities are joined to the outside of the composite material. Unless the matrix material is made more brittle by artificial means (for example, by cooling), the method is destructive and has limited application if it behaves ductile under compression.

The method neglects the effect of any volatile components that may evaporate during and after decomposition. Conditioning in this context will be chosen with care. The method also does not take into account any deposits or exposed voids on the Sample surface.

Method C; This method can be applied to composites with a void content equal to or less than 1% by volume. Overlaying a Square grid of 20 to 200 Points on a micrographic section of the material to be tested. Statistically, the proportion of grid Points superimposed on the voids corresponds to the void content of the material. The counting method can be manual or semi-automatic or automatic using the appropriate apparatus.
