TAPPI T-812 Standard Test for Solid and Corrugated (Wet) Sheet Separation

The TAPPI T-812 Delay method describes a laboratory test to evaluate the resistance of solid or corrugated cardboard to delamination after exposure to water. It is primarily intended to distinguish between sheets produced with weatherproof adhesives and sheets with non-weatherproof adhesives.

The ability of a chipboard shipping container to meet certain wet weather durability requirements is affected by the resistance of the plies of solid or corrugated cardboard to splitting after exposure to water. Evaluation of the strength of the bonding adhesive after a period of immersion in water is therefore one of the criteria for weatherproof chipboard shipping containers.

Cut 400-3 samples, 5 x 150 mm (250 x 6 inches), from each test unit obtained according to the TAPPI T-10 "Sampling and Accepting a Single Lot of Paper, Cardboard, Container or Related Product", depending on lot size. It is accepted as a measurement from the parts of the board that are not damaged, scratched or printed.

If the finished containers do not allow samples of this size, use smaller sized samples. If unavoidable, some pressure or a notch near the center of the sample (not near an edge) is acceptable.
