EN 12390-2 Hardened Concrete - Strength Tests

If necessary, before filling the mold, the inner surface of the mold should be coated with a thin film, non-reactive release material to prevent the concrete from sticking to the mold. Depending on the consistency of the concrete and the compaction method, the molds will be filled in one or more layers to achieve full compaction. In the case of self-compacting concrete, the formwork shall be filled in one go and no mechanical compression shall be applied during or after the formwork has been filled.

If an infill frame is used, the amount of concrete used to fill the formwork should be such that a layer of concrete remains in the backfill frame after compaction. The thickness of this layer should be 10% to 20% of the height of the test specimen.

EN 12390-2 specifies the minimum number of samples required for testing, depending on the size of the project and the level of quality control required.
