ISO 9211-2 Optics and Optical Instruments - Optical Coatings - Part 2: Standard Test Method for Optical Properties

EUROLAB, together with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ISO 9211-2 testing. IS0 9211 describes the surface treatment of components and substrates, excluding ophthalmic optics (spectacles), by the application of optical coatings, and gives a standard form for their specifications. It describes general characteristics and, where necessary, test and measurement methods, but is not intended to describe the process method.

ISO 9211-2 Optics and Optical Instruments - Optical Coatings - Part 2: Standard Test Method for Optical Properties

This section of IS0 9211 shows how to determine the optical properties of coatings and how to represent their spectral characterizations. It also gives recommendations for technical specifications in the drawings.

The optical properties and optical operating conditions of a coating should be specified in a standard format using table 1 to provide a comprehensive description of a coating in terms of minimum optical properties and optical conditions in which the coating is present.

Measurement conditions for spectrophotometric characterization will be subject to agreement between supplier and user. These conditions include angle of incidence, cone angle aperture, polarization state, spectral range and bandwidth of the measuring beam, etc. It depends on the principle of the measurement method and the instruments used and should be recorded in sufficient detail.

The upper or lower tolerance limits (indicated by the U and L subscripts, respectively) that must lie within the spectral curve should be indicated on the graph, with areas scanned outside the tolerance band if necessary. The mean value, if specified, may be represented by a separate line or chain of symbols denoted by the subscript "ave". Mean values may also be represented by an upper and lower bound denoted by the subscripts "aveu" and "aveL", respectively.

If the coating is used in several spectral regions, the characterization of the function in these different regions may appear in the same notation. If necessary, the use of different scales is allowed.
