ISO 13741-2 Plastics, Polymer dispersions and rubber latexes, Part 2: Standard Test for Headspace Method

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ISO 13741-2 standard. This part of ISO 13741 specifies a method for the determination of residual monomers and other (unsaturated or saturated) organic compounds in aqueous polymer dispersion ions and latexes as well as related products.

ISO 13741-2 Plastics, Polymer dispersions and rubber latexes, Part 2: Standard Test for Headspace Method

It utilizes capillary column gas chromatography, where the sample is introduced into the chromatograph as a vapor from a headspace flask.

Residual monomers and saturated volatiles that have been successfully identified by this method include acrylic and methacrylic esters, butadiene, styrene and vinylacetate as well as by-products such as ethylbenzene.

Because normally obtained chromatograms contain a series of peaks, it is only possible to determine the content of volatiles for which response factors are determined. Ancillary methods such as mass spectroscopy or the use of a second GC column of different polarity are recommended to identify unknown peaks.
