EN 13478 Machinery Safety - Fire Prevention and Protection Test

The aim of this European standard is to achieve the required level of safety according to the intended use of the machine by applying technical measures for the machines. Technical measures are mainly integrated into the machine and preferably implemented with the use of safety components as defined in Directive 98/37/EC.

This European standard does not cover machinery designed to control controlled combustion processes (e.g. internal combustion engines, furnaces) unless these operations constitute a source of ignition of a fire in other parts of the machinery or beyond.

All fire prevention and protection measures related to the structural features of buildings, the design, construction and functional planning of a building to reduce the spread of fire, to provide access to fire brigades and safe fire fighting conditions, and to reduce damage to the building, its contents and the environment.

A fire hazard exists if combustible materials, oxidizers and ignition energy are present in the same place and in sufficient quantities at the same time.
