EN ISO 18560-1 Thin Ceramics - Test Method for Air Purification Performance of Semiconductor Photocatalytic Materials by Test Chamber Method in Indoor Lighting Environment

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN ISO 18560-1 testing. EN ISO 18560-1 specifies a test method for determining the air cleaning performance of materials, usually made of semiconductor metal oxides, containing an indoor-light-activated photocatalyst, or having indoor-light-activated photocatalytic films on the surface.

Formaldehyde (HCHO) was chosen because it is a typical indoor air pollutant that causes sick building syndrome. The purpose of this part of EN ISO 18560 is to evaluate the photocatalytic performance for building materials such as boards, wallpapers. This part of EN ISO 18560 does not apply to powdery or granular photocatalytic materials.

This test method can be applied to indoor-light-active photocatalytic materials that are generally produced for air purification. This method is not suitable for determining other performance properties of photocatalytic materials, i.e. decomposition of water pollutants, self-cleaning, anti-fogging and antibacterial effects. This test method is based on EN ISO 16000‑23 and is tuned for the measurement of light-active photocatalytic materials indoors.

Another test method for determining the air cleaning performance of photocatalytic materials using formaldehyde is described in ISO 22197-4. While the test methods from ISO 22197 are prepared for the evaluation of material-based air cleaning performance under ultraviolet light irradiation, this part of EN ISO 18560 aims to provide a direct index to the improvement of indoor air quality by indoor light.
