EN 826 Thermal Insulation Products for Building Applications - Standard Test Method for Determining Compression Behavior

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 826 testing. This European standard specifies the equipment and procedures to be used when determining the compression behavior of test specimens. It is applicable to thermal insulation products and can be used to determine compressive stress in pressure creep tests and for applications where insulation products are subjected to short-term loads only.

The method can be used for quality control purposes. It can also be used to obtain reference values from which design values can be calculated using safety factors.

A compression force at a given displacement ratio is applied perpendicular to the major faces of a square-cut test specimen and the maximum stress supported by the specimen is calculated.

When the value of the maximum stress corresponds to less than 10% strain, it is defined as compressive strength and the corresponding strain is reported. If no failure is observed before 10% strain is reached, the compression stress at 10% strain is calculated and reported as the compression stress at 10% strain.

Sensor attached to one of the machine plates to measure the force produced by the reaction of the sample on the plates. This sensor should be such that its deformation during the measurement process is negligible compared to the measured one or, if not, to be taken into account by calculation. In addition, it should allow continuous measurement of force with an accuracy of ± 1%.

Test samples will have the original product thickness. The width of the test specimens should not be less than their thickness. Products with solid molded coatings that are retained during use should be tested with these coatings intact.
