The method allows the penetration time, water absorption, penetration area and water penetration rate to be determined as required. It can be applied to all kinds of heavy leather.
The test piece is continuously wetted on a surface and flexed and compressed during walking in the same way as the sole of a shoe. This allows various aspects of heavy leather water resistance to be measured against time.
Note when water is clearly visible on the skin surface adjacent to the roller, ignoring any penetration within 5 mm from the edge of the test piece.
An acoustic or optical signal can be used to help detect initial water penetration, but effective penetration of water must be checked by visual observation.
