EN 1176-3 Playground Equipment and Surface Coating, Part 3: Additional Specific Safety Requirements and Test Methods for Slides

The purpose is to protect the user against possible dangers during use. Where the main playback function is not shifted, the relevant requirements of this part of EN 1176 may be used as appropriate.

This standard does not apply to water slides, roller paths or slide installations where auxiliary equipment such as mats or sleds are used. This standard does not apply to curved surfaces that do not contain or guide the user, such as handrail rails (curved parallel bars).

Access to the starting section will be via an access ladder, ladder, climbing section or device. In the embankment slides, the starting section can be reached directly from the mound. For free-standing slides, the maximum vertical height that the first stairs can reach without change of direction or slipping should be 2.500 mm with the minimum width of the access means.

For all attachment skids with a drop height of more than 1000 mm, a rail or crossbar must be provided across the access opening. The rail or cross member should be placed between the platform guardrail or barrier and the start of the sliding section.
