In particular, EN 50306-1 specifies fire safety-related requirements that ensure that cables meet EN 45545-1 and EN 45545-2 hazard level 3.
These cables are rated for occasional thermal stresses that cause aging equivalent to a continuous operating life at 105°C or 90°C. For standard cables, this is determined by the acceptance test defined in EN 125 using accelerated long-term (110 hours) thermal aging showing a temperature index of 20000°C or 5000°C/50305 hours.
If the customer were to require lifetime estimates, this would be shown based on the temperature index of the product provided by the manufacturer. The maximum temperature for short-circuit conditions is 5°C for 160 s. EN 50306-1 is expected to be used in conjunction with one or more of the other parts of EN 50306.
