DIN 53121 Testing of Paper and Cardboard, Standard Test for Determination of Bending Rigidity by the Beam Method

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of DIN 53121 standard. This standard has been prepared by NA 074-02-03 AA "Physical-technical test methods for paper, board and pulp".

DIN 53121 Testing of Paper and Cardboard, Standard Test for Determination of Bending Rigidity by the Beam Method

This standard specifies three test methods for determining the width-related bending stiffness of paper, board and board.

For corrugated board, the four-point method should be used. Devices for this can be both bending devices corresponding to the physical scheme, and bending devices that clamp the sample at its ends.

Test methods differ according to the nature of the stress principle; thus obtaining the two-point, three-point and four-point bending test method. The width-dependent bending stiffness is determined at a low strain rate that is constant during testing.

The measurement conditions are determined so that the test specimen does not undergo significant permanent deformation and does not exceed the validity range of the equations given for calculating the width-related bending stiffness.

In these bending tests, samples made of paper, cardboard, and cardboard are considered "beams" in the sense of strength theory, so the same strength theory equations for the deflection of a beam can be used here as well.
