DIN 54231 Textile - Detection of Disperse Dyes

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of DIN 54231 testing. Disperse dyestuff is a type of non-ionic dye with lower water solubility. This dye was first used to dye cellulose acetate, a synthetic substance derived from the naturally occurring organic compound cellulose.

DIN 54231 Textile - Detection of Disperse Dyes

With the development of synthetic fibers, nylon and polyester emerged successively. These are materials with high less fiber voids and strong hydrophobic properties. These fibers are swelled under high temperature and dyed with disperse dyestuff, so that the dyestuff penetrates into the fiber completely. Therefore, the demand for new sublimation resistant dyestuffs with better hydrophobicity and a certain dispersion has increased.

Today, disperse dyes are widely used for dyeing polyester fabrics in printing and dyeing processes. The dyeing solution of the disperse dye is an average and stable suspension. Disperse dyes were mainly used to dye polyester fibers and acetate fibers, but with the emergence of polyester fiber from the 1950s, disperse dyestuffs developed rapidly and became an important product in the dye industry.

Mainly, mixing of colored wastes into surface water bodies creates negative effects on aquatic ecology and humans due to the mutagenic and carcinogenic effects of the dyes responsible for color production. Disperse dyes cause sensitivity when colored textile products come into contact with the body. It is recognized as a potential allergen, especially for children. Contact allergic reactions to synthetic textile dyes have been known for a long time.

In order to minimize various pollutants including disperse dyestuffs in industrial wastewater, different parameters such as adsorbent dose, adsorbent concentration, agitation speed, temperature, pH value, particle size and contact time are monitored.

Paints are grouped in different ways, but the primary grouping is based on their chemical composition and properties. Dyes have different chemical structures such as water-soluble acidic and basic dyes, complex disperse dyes, azo-based dyes or metal complex dyes. Among them, disperse dyes are less soluble and very useful for dyeing polyester fibers.
