This European standard recommends the safe use of ladders covered by EN 131-1 and meeting the requirements of EN 131-1, EN 131-2 and EN 131-4 for single or multiple articulated ladders and EN 131 for telescopic ladders.
The manufacturer will be responsible for the content of the safety marking and user instructions and for providing instructions for each ladder. The safety sign and user instructions will be in the language of the country where the ladder was originally released.
The distributor must ensure that the safety sign and operating instructions are provided for each ladder and that the operating instructions are available in the official languages of the country in which the ladder is marketed. The basic safety sign should be affixed to all ladders and ladder parts that can be used individually as an easily visible symbol.
Instructions for use should be included with the ladder and should also be available on the manufacturer's website. The user instruction will contain the identity and address of the manufacturer or distributor, including the website address. The maximum number of safety signs should be reduced to a number that users can identify and comply with when using the ladder.
Ladders made of or using thermoplastic, thermosetting plastic and reinforced plastic materials should be stored away from direct sunlight. Wooden ladders should be stored in a dry place and should not be covered with opaque and vapor-proof paints.
