EN 13499 Thermal Insulation Products for Buildings - Exterior Thermal Insulation Composite Systems Based on Expanded Polystyrene (ETICS) Test

This European standard specifies requirements for factory-made products for external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS) based on expanded polystyrene, delivered as a kit and used as thermal insulation for buildings.

The standard defines product characteristics and includes procedures for testing, marking and labeling. ETICS is applied to the exterior surfaces of new or existing walls or soffits to improve thermal insulation. ETICS includes special fasteners (base profiles, corner profiles, etc.) to connect them to adjacent building structures (openings, corners, parapets, etc.).

ETICS provides weather protection and improves the appearance of buildings. They do not contribute to the strength of the wall or sub-surfaces on which they are mounted. The standard covers systems where thermal insulation material is required for load transfer to the substrate.

This standard covers systems with a declared thermal resistance equal to or greater than 1 m²×K/W. Requirements from national regulations regarding the mechanical resistance and stability of ETICS should be considered.
