EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 14231 standard. This European standard specifies a test method for determining the slip resistance value of the surface of exposed faces of natural stone elements intended for flooring in buildings.
If the surface of the exposed face has a roughness of greater than 13373 mm, measured in accordance with EN 1, it shall be deemed to be non-slippery without testing. This method can be used for laboratory measurements or on floors in service.
The pendulum friction tester includes a spring loaded slider made of a standard rubber attached to the end of the pendulum. As the pendulum swings, the frictional force between the slider and the test surface is measured by the reduction in swing length using a calibrated scale.
Friction is the resistance to relative motion between two bodies in contact, in this case the slider and the test specimen or the sole of the shoe and the traded surface, the frictional force is the force acting tangentially to the contact area.
For laboratory measurements, keep friction test equipment, slider, and samples in a room at an appropriate temperature. Keep at (2 ± 20)°C for at least 5 hours before the test starts.
For measurements on floors in use, clean the test surface of loose particles and rinse with water. Measure the temperature of the test surface and the slider to the nearest 1°C. The test cannot be performed if the surface temperature is outside the range of 5°C to 40°C.
