This standard specifies a method for determining the emission sound pressure levels of machinery or equipment in a substantially free space on a reflective plane, at a workstation and other specified locations nearby.
A workstation is occupied by an operator and can be located outdoors, in the room where the tested resource is working, in a cabinet fixed to the tested resource, or in an enclosure away from the tested resource. One or more of the specified locations can be located near a workstation or near a supervised or unattended machine. Such positions are sometimes called spectator positions.
Emission sound pressure levels are determined as A-weighted levels. In addition, if necessary, the levels in the frequency bands and the C-weighted peak emission sound pressure levels can be determined according to EN ISO 11201.
With the method specified in EN ISO 11201, accuracy degree 1 (precision degree) or accuracy degree 2 (engineering degree) results are obtained. Corrections for background noise are applied, but not for the acoustic environment. Instructions are provided for the assembly and operation of the source under test and the selection of microphone locations for the workstation and other specified locations. One purpose of the measurements is to allow the performance of different units of a given machine family to be compared under defined environmental conditions and standardized assembly and operating conditions.
The method specified in EN ISO 11201 is suitable for all noise types defined in ISO 12001 (constant, unsteady, wavy, isolated sound energy bursts, etc.).
The method specified in EN ISO 11201 can be applied to any type and size of noise source.
The type of test environment affects the accuracy of determining emission sound pressure levels. For the application of ISO 11201:2010 a substantially free space on a reflective plane (indoor or outdoor) is required.
EN ISO 11201 applies to workstations and other specified locations where emission sound pressure levels are to be measured.
