This standard specifies a method using a temperature gradient oven to determine the resistance of a single-layer or multi-layer system of coating materials to the effects of liquids or paste-like products. A test substance is applied to a coated test panel following a specific procedure. The test panel is placed in a gradient furnace. The effects of exposures are assessed against agreed criteria.

Wipe the test panel with a soft cloth after the test period has expired. Remove dried residues of the aqueous test items under running water and remove dry residues of other test items with a coating-safe solvent.
The repeatability limit (r) is the value that is expected to remain below the absolute difference between two single test results, each the mean of replicates, when this method is used under repeatability conditions. In this case, test results are obtained in a short time on the same material by a single operator in a single laboratory using the standard test method.
