This standard applies to two-wheeled EPACs for private and commercial use with a maximum seat height of 635 mm or more, excluding EPACs intended for rental from unattended stations. This standard is intended to cover all common significant hazards, hazardous situations and events of EPACs when used as intended or under conditions of misuse reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer.
This standard specifies requirements and test methods for engine power management systems, electrical circuits including the charger for evaluation of the design and installation of EPACs, and subassemblies for Extra Low Safety Voltage (SELV) systems up to 60 V dc.
The motor controller must be designed to cut power to the electric motor when a fault condition occurs. Interoperable charging may be possible for non-proprietary systems. Safety and risk analysis should consider charging processes where the battery and charger are released independently of each other. Therefore, the safety requirements for charging on the EPAC side and the charger side will be explained.
