ISO 13216 Road Vehicles - Test for Anchors and Child Restraint Systems in Vehicles

ISO 13216 specifies dimensions, general requirements and static strength requirements for rigid anchors for fixing child restraint systems (CRS) in vehicles. In passenger transport vehicles, it is applied to fittings for mounting CRSs for children up to 22 kg by means of two rigid anchors located in the ample seat area.

To ensure compatibility with anchors, this section of ISO 13216 also specifies important characteristics of CRSs equipped with rigid attachments, such as critical dimensions of attachments and general requirements for handling.

Ancillary devices such as lashing straps and reaction rods that may be required for certain vehicle configurations or to meet performance criteria in national and international standards and regulations are not specified in this part of ISO 13216.

The purpose of the CRF is to ensure that a child restraint system sits in a designated seating position in relation to the anchor position and the surrounding interior. Anchors must be located so that no part of the interior of the vehicle overlaps the boundary surfaces given by the CRF. If the vehicle seat is adjustable, it should be adjusted as recommended by the vehicle manufacturer for use with child restraint systems.
