ISO 6549 Road Vehicles - Test for H- and R-Point Determination Procedure

The three-dimensional H-point machine is designed to be used as a control device for a designated seat position each time and is not a device that measures or displays a passenger's abilities or comfort.

This International Standard is applicable to any motor vehicle if:

  • If the vertically measured distance between the operator's heel point and the seating reference point is less than 550 mm;
  • The torso angle is greater than 5° backwards from the vertical or the location of the thigh centerline indicated by the thigh bar is more than 5° above the horizontal.

The vehicle must be preconditioned at the discretion of the manufacturer at a temperature of 20 + 10°C to allow the seat material to reach room temperature. If he has never sat in the seat to be controlled, a person or device weighing between 70 and 80 kg must sit in the seat to stretch the cushion and back. At the manufacturer's request, all seat assemblies shall be unloaded for at least 30 minutes prior to installation of the three-dimensional H-point machine.

Dimensions are measured relative to vertical and horizontal body zero planes, with the vehicle set to reference marks specified by the manufacturer. The seat is adjusted to a position relative to the position of the seating reference point, and all adjustment features are positioned relative to the normal driving position specified by the manufacturer. For seats with independent vertical adjustment or suspension, the vertical position must be firmly fixed and placed in the normal driving position specified by the manufacturer. In addition, the seat must be placed in the rearmost normal driving position as specified by the manufacturer.

Attach the foot and lower leg assemblies individually or using the T-bar and lower leg assembly to the seat pan assembly. A line through the H point sight buttons should be parallel to the floor and perpendicular to the longitudinal center plane of the seat.
