This International standard specifies test methods for determining the characteristic longitudinal friction force values of paved surfaces using a standard reference test tire or tire of a vehicle under test.
General test procedures and their validity are presented for determining peak and slip braking coefficients on real test surfaces where surface conditions are determined and controlled by the user during testing. The purpose of this International Standard is to harmonize test results in different test paths. The values measured with standard reference test tires (SRTT) are intended to form standard reference numbers representing the friction characteristics of test tracks and road surfaces representing passenger car tires.
Some methods may also be suitable for measuring the frictional properties of a particular test car tire on the test track. The values quantify the peak, near-peak, or slip braking coefficients during testing and do not necessarily represent fixed values. Values measured with reference tires are considered as reference numbers denoting specific friction characteristics of test tracks and road surfaces.
