TAPPI T-566 Standard Test for Flexural Strength of Paper

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, offers precise and rapid testing services within the scope of the TAPPI T-566 test. TAPPI T-566 Flexural strength covers a procedure used to measure the flexural resistance of papers of low grammage or high flexibility, or both, and exhibiting flexural stiffness in the range of 0 to 10 Taber hardness units.

This test is used to determine the bending moment required to deflect the free end of a 10 mm (0,39 in) wide vertically clamped specimen 38° from the centerline when the load is applied 1,5 mm (15 in) away from the clamp. Bending strength is calculated from the bending moment.

A test sample with defined dimensions is bent at a certain angle using a special testing device. The resulting bending moment is read from the tool scale. Bending strength can be calculated from the bending moment.

Flexural strength, or stiffness, is a critical property for paper products because it affects their performance in a variety of applications. For example, packaging materials may require a certain level of hardness to maintain their shape and preserve their contents, while graphic papers may need certain hardness characteristics for printing and use.
