EN 12727 Furniture - Row Seats - Safety - Standard Test Method for Strength and Endurance Requirements

This European standard specifies requirements that determine the safety, structural strength and durability of any seating arrangement permanently fixed to the floor or wall, whether in the form of rows or single seats. This standard does not apply to anchor seats that are not fixed to the floor or walls and street furniture.

It does not include requirements for resistance to aging, deterioration, flammability, the effects of ambient temperature, and durability of flooring materials.

This requirement is met when:

• Accessible corners and edges are rounded or chamfered;
• All other corners and edges are free of burrs and sharp edges;
• Hollow components with achievable depth greater than 10 mm, diameter greater than 7 mm and less than 12 mm are capped.

Moving and adjustable parts shall be designed to avoid injury and accidental operation. Any unintentional loosening of any load-bearing part of the seat shall not be possible. All parts lubricated to aid gliding shall be designed to protect users from oil stains in normal use.

Except for tilting seats, there will be no shear and pinch points created by the electrically actuated parts of the seats, e.g. springs and gas lifts.
