EN 622-1 Fiberboards - Standard Test for General Requirements

EN 622-1 is a European standard that specifies general requirements for fiberboard. Fiberboards are produced by bonding wood fibers or other lignocellulosic fibers with a synthetic or natural adhesive under heat and pressure. This standard covers fiberboard with a density greater than 250 kg/m³ and a thickness greater than 2 mm.

It includes the following requirements:

• Composition and density: The composition and density of the fiber board should be consistent with the type of board produced;
• Dimensions and tolerances: The dimensions and tolerances of the fibreboard must conform to the manufacturer's specifications;
• Appearance and finish: The surface of the fibreboard should be smooth and free from defects such as cracks, voids and roughness;
• Physical and mechanical properties: Fiberboard must meet certain physical and mechanical properties, such as density, swelling in thickness, water absorption, internal bond strength and modulus of elasticity;
• Chemical properties: MDF should not contain harmful substances beyond the specified limits;
• Formaldehyde emission: Formaldehyde emission from fiber must be within specified limits;
• Marking and labeling: Fiberboard should be marked with the manufacturer's name, board type, dimensions and other relevant information.

EN 622-1 specifies the basic requirements for fibreboard, while other standards in the EN 622 series specify requirements for certain types of fibreboard.
