ISO 5660-1 Fire reaction tests - Heat release, Smoke Production and Mass Loss Rate Standard

This International ISO 5660-1 standard is used for technical modeling of fire. Data from test results can be used to model larger fires. The method is also widely used in testing during product development.

The test method is also used for third-party verification (production control). The method is cost effective in product development and production control.

When testing a product according to ISO 5660, a 100 mm x 100 mm sample is exposed to a certain level of radiation. The surface of the sample is heated and begins to emit pyrolysis gases ignited by a spark igniter.

The emitted gases are collected in a hood and transported through a ventilation system. Heat release is measured using data on the measured oxygen concentration in the emitted smoke. Smoke production is measured continuously throughout the test with a laser system.

In the method, ignition characteristics, heat release rate (kW/m 2 ), total heat release (MJ / m 2 ), mass loss (g / s), effective net heat of combustion (MJ / kg) and smoke production rate (m 2 / m XNUMX ) s) parameters are measured. Levels of toxic gases can also be measured with the FTIR analysis.

Among the services provided by our organization within the framework of fire testing services, there are also ISO 5660-1 standard tests.
