AATCC 118 Oil Repellency Test Method, Standard Test for Hydrocarbon Resistance

This test method is not intended to give an absolute measure of the fabric's resistance to staining by all oily materials. Composition and viscosity of oily substances, fabric structure, fiber type, dyes, other finishing agents, etc. Other factors such as stain resistance also affect stain resistance.

However, this test can provide a rough index of oil stain resistance because generally the higher the degree of oil repellency, the better the resistance to staining by oily materials, especially oily substances. This is especially true when comparing various finishes for a particular fabric.
